You must have the appropriate hardware (a CD-R or CD-RW drive) installed on your PC before you can burn to CD your book.
In addition, the book's Digital Rights Information notice must contain the notice "This title can be burned to CD during the lending period". (Some publishers require us to disable "Burn to CD" functionality.)
Once you've downloaded your audio book, it is available within the OverDrive Media Console to burn to CD. Simply select the audio book you would like to listen to and choose "Transfer/burn" on the toolbar.
You may see the following message alerting you that Windows Media Player is about to open. Click "OK" to continue.
Windows Media Player will open and the book you selected should be displayed under the "Now Playing" tab.
To burn a part of a book to CD, select the part you'd like to burn and click your right mouse button while pointing at the selected part. A menu should pop up, where you can select the option "Add to" which should pop up another menu where you can select "Burn List".
If you succeeded in adding the parts you selected in the step above to your burn list, you should see the parts of the book you selected under the Burn list on the Burn tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Under the CD Drive on the right, you may see the message "Insert a blank CD into the drive". You should insert a blank CD into your CD-R/CD-RW drive at this time.
Once you have inserted a blank CD into your CD-R/CD-RW drive, the status on the Burn List should change to "Ready to burn". Click on "Start Burn" to begin creating the CD.
The part you selected from your audio book will begin burning to CD. Please keep the Windows Media Player open while the burning process completes. You can monitor its progress on the status bar.
The resulting CD should be playable in most CD players.
In order to obtain the rights to some additional titles, the publishers of these titles require us to disable the "Burn to CD" functionality. In the detail about the title, the "Digital Rights Information" section will say if a title can be burned or not:
Each part of a book fits on a single CD. So if you download a book with 10 parts it would take 10 CDs.
We recommend CD-Rs, if you are going to be using the CDs in multiple CD players. You can use CD-RWs, if your CD player is compatible with them. Just keep in mind that the quality of CD-RWs can degrade after several uses.
Audio books that are burned to CDs do not expire. You can use the CDs as long as you want.
